Combining of Old World Animals and the New World Environment On the morning of October 12, 1492, as Columbus and his fleet of three ships approached the majestic shores of the new world, it marked the end of one era and the beginning of another. Until this historic moment, the two continents had lived separately from each other, unaware of the other's existence. However, as Columbus and his crew set foot upon the New World, the flood gates were suddenly opened as the country now known as America, fell into the hands of its European discoverers. With their arrival to the virgin lands, the Europeans encountered a world different from their own and quickly sought to "Europeanize" it as soon as possible. In essence, this meant transforming it into something which more closely resembled their home lands (Crosby 64). By manipulating the new environment to better reflect the surrounding of their home country, the explorers and later the settlers, began to break down the fragile ecosystem of the New World. With little regard for their impact on the en vironment, the progressive destruction of the natural habitat continued at an unprecedented rate. The mass devastation of the virgin forests and woodlands shattered the natural balance which had been in place for centuries. Little was spared from the invasive methods of Columbus and his fellow Europeans, including animals. As if the destruction of the native land was not drastic enough, the introduction of Old World species into the New World environment added another factor into the story of the conquest of the New World and its inhabitants. In the years following 1492, an onslaught of European species were introduced into the New World in an attempt to Europeanize the newly discovered ... ... played a part in building what is the environment of present day America. Though these changes took place over four centuries ago, the results can see be seen for the outcome is in front of us every day - a unique and diverse biota composed of species from two worlds meshed together into one living environment. Leaders and Innovation
The staff members that are having knowledge depend a lot on the leaders of the organizations.à It is important that the leader makes an attempt to innovate rather than orders his/her staff members to do so.à The leader should be able to lead his/her staff by example.à He/she should also be able to create an environment existent in the organization that is conducive for innovation. An attitude or relentless growth should be formed.à This would not only permit the organization to achieve its objectives, but also enable the staff members to do so.à Once the staff members are able to achieve their objects, they would be motivated to develop and grow father, and the best instrument to develop and grow would be innovation.à The leader of the team should ensure that there is free-flow of ideas in the team, and the communications links between the members of the team are strong and effective. The leader should also be able to develop a strategy, structures and functions within the organization that would enable innovation.à A corporate culture (which includes norms, assumptions, values and attitudes, shared by the staff that function in the organization) should be created that would help in the innovation development. Many of the leaders in the corporate sector suggest that it is utmost important for the leader to motivate his staff members using various methods, so that innovation is possible.à The leader would have to conduct research to determine the means by which the staff embers would get motivated.à He/she should then use these means to encourage the staff members to innovate further (Kotelnikov, 2007). In several branches of science, controversy follows innovation, and threatens to affect the social structures present in the organization.à Various parties may come up with their own assumptions with a new technology brought out by an organization.à This may be a subject of debate in the field.à This should be considered as an opportunity to provide answers to several difficult questions.à Several others who consider that they are experts in that field would question any new technology brought about by recent research. A strong communication link should be existent between various intellectuals of the field so that unanswered questions are effectively addressed.à This would certainly help to advance the field and provide benefits for mankind.à It is important that in any controversy situation, the roots of the conflict be recognized and addressed properly.à However, if these issues are not understood and addressed (and if not taken in the right spirit), the controversy could worsen, which would have a negative impact on the organization, the particular scientific field and ultimately on the society (Baldwin, 2007). Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen - 1066 Words
I:Pride and Prejudice by, Jane Austen II: The setting of the story in Pride and Prejudice is 19th century Longbourn, England. It starts out close around winter time and proceeds from there. If the setting were different and it wasnââ¬â¢t around winter time, the course of the story would change. It would cause ripple effects and the whole plotline would be different. III: Here are some main characters from the novel Pride and Prejudice: First we have the protagonist of the story, Elizabeth ââ¬Å"Lizzyâ⬠Bennet. She is the second daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. She obtains quick-witted and a little bit sassy throughout the story. Highly agreeable, clever, and honest, Lizzy will not let anybody get in the way of what she truly wants. Next is theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He is pretty wealthy, working as a clergyman near Rosingââ¬â¢s Park. Mrs. Bennet is a crazy mother who is obsessed with getting her daughters married. She is the mother of five daughters who take a minor part to the story. Mrs. Bennet is f oolish and noisy and obnoxious to almost everyone in the book. But in my opinion, I find her simply curious and excited. She wants her daughters to find love...but it isnââ¬â¢t really love she is seeking. It is wealth. She makes decisions for them without their consent, but the daughters go along with it for the most part. Mrs. Bennet would not be considered a very agreeable woman. Mr. Bennet is the last major character of the story. He is the husband to Mrs. Bennet and father to the five Bennet girls. He becomes highly irritated with the marriage drama proceeding to take its way. Especially his wife babbling on and on about the different balls and how charming and uncharming different men are. He is not very patient. IV: The main conflict of the story has two parts. One part is Mr. Darcyââ¬â¢s try to win Lizzyââ¬â¢s love. He wants to be with her and prove he is more than who everyone thinks he is. Elizabeth, on the other hand, is having a hard time putting that aside. She has everyone inside of her head. Her mother pressuring her into marriage with the first ââ¬Å"agreeableâ⬠man she sees. She is fancied by other men and they want her hand in marriage. She has to make up her mind.
